Bridget-Hope has lived in the cult commune called Emerald City, California her whole gosh-darn life, and she yearns to see the world outside the chicken-wire fence. She loves their leader Papa, and his stories about Gedde the miracle-man. But the rumors that her Papa is a killer won’t go away--and the adults can’t get their story straight about what happened to her real father.

When Bridget sneaks out into the redwood forest, she befriends a tribe of strangers with goat-heads who may know these answers. She trades a stolen candy bar for a crown that lets her magically leave her body. With this, she makes a plan to escape Emerald City for good. She wants to convince her best friend TJ to come along, hoping their lifelong bond can overcome TJ’s devotion to Papa. But Papa’s ears are everywhere, and none of Bridget’s friends are safe from him, as long as he wants Bridget right where she is.

Papa and his fanatics are bolstering the fence, and watching her every move. With her crown and her cunning, Bridget can leave Emerald City behind--but she may have to abandon the only family she has, and TJ, the girl she’s loved ever since she knew anything.

EMERALD CITY is an adult fantasy/magical realism novel complete at 117,000 words; The Ocean at the End of the Lane and Pan's Labyrinth in Jonestown, with a bisexual, biracial heroine.

The analyst

Tom Bell is an Analyst, a federal agent who protects American citizens from the supernatural entities that become violent and out of control, and covers up every trace of their presence. His estranged ex-wife, mental illness, and persistent memories of childhood trauma serve as constant obstacles in his struggle to stay sane in the face of the impossible. Substance abuse and casual sex keep his inner demons at bay, but the real ones find more and more to prey on.

Volume IV, LAND OF UNBELIEF, is now available through Amazon.

BRI WOOD

was born in Monterey, CA in 1987, the son of African-American Malbour Lee and Kiwi (Pakeha) Anne Robyn. He grew up in San Diego, and moved to New Zealand in 1999, where he graduated from the Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand in 2008. Bri currently resides in Sydney, though he often visits home.

Bri is a strong advocate for fiction that reflects real-world diversity. His series THE ANALYST has been praised for its blending of the fantastic and horrific with interpersonal conflict and its unflinching portrayal of a protagonist living with mental illness.
